Apartment Hacks : Table for Two

Y’all I built a table. This is not a joke, went to Lowe’s, got supplies, used power tools, am currently sitting at said table.

Any of my friends (supportive as they are…) would tell you this is shocking. I’m not handy, often rely on my better equipped friends to do the general maintenance around my house, but by golly I was gonna do this DIY thing!

It began when I needed somewhere to eat. I live in a small apartment. I wanted a two person, possible to pull up two more chairs table, that sits on a wall that is about 6 feet long. Yea, challenges. When you go to look for these on the typical websites, they are either too wide, too long or too damn expensive (I can’t pay $200 for plastic wood, it just doesn’t sit well).

So began my certainty that I could build something for less, that would actually look good. So here it is:

Step 1: move into 500 sq. foot apt

Step 2: fill up apt with so many things you can’t fit a dining room table

Step 3: get tired of eating dinner on the couch

Step 4: research tables

Step 5: woahhhh way too expensive/not what I want

Step 6: decide you could make something better

Step 7: call your friend and say today is the day to build my table

Step 8: Lowe’s

Step 9: tell someone all about your plan at Lowe’s (unimpressed)

Step 10: find a better person to help

Step 11: they are impressed with your idea

Step 12: buy 4 things - sawhorse, 2x4 (cut down to 2x3 because of helpful man), spray paint, sandpaper

Step 13: make a mimosa (I SWEAR this is important)

Neccessary supplies

Step 14: spray paint all your wood

Step 15: sip mimosa while wood dries

Step 16: line up top and bottom of table

Step 17: POWER TOOLS!

Step 18: 2 screws per side, drill 5 inches in

Step 19: do it to the other side

Step 20: admire your handy work

Step 21: put in desired location in home and enjoy!
