RVA Spots : Quirk Hotel

I feel like I’ve tagged and talked about it a billion times, but Quirk Hotel deserves a post of its own. New to the Richmond scene, opened minutes before the big bike race, Quirk has surely made a splash and is now comfortably sitting on the list of coolest places in RVA.

Some girlfriends and I went a few days after it opened for a few drinks on my birthday. As soon as you step inside, you are lost in the ambiance, soft pinks and grays are the color scheme, with a modern, open lobby that saved the original architecture of the building. An art boutique hotel, originally a chic department store, everything about this hotel is perfect - down to the waitstaff at the lobby restaurant Maple and Pine.

Maple and Pine is run by David Dunlap, acclaimed chef most recently out of D.C. We sampled a few of the apps they had, the smoked pork plate is not to be missed. We drank champagne and various cocktails, choosing with the help of our friendly server, who even found out the name of the glasses they used when my friend asked (I told you, awesome place).

I think the beauty of Quirk is that it’s not only a hotel, but a place where us local Richmonders can go. And it serves many purposes for the local community - coffee spot, drinks with the girls, date night, a place to wander in on a Sunday afternoon to check out the adjoining Quirk Gallery (I did that last weekend, it’s a wonderful, wonderful gallery that you all need to go check out now!). Also to come in the coolest place in RVA - a rooftop bar! Yep, that’s right, Quirk gets better and better. The rooftop bar is set to open in November and I for one cannot wait! (Dear weather, hang tight until I can have a drink without freezing my tush off up there.)
My only problem now is finding a reason to stay here for the weekend!
