RVA Events : The Christmas Parade

Saturday was the official RVA kickoff of the holiday season as the Christmas Parade marched down Broad Street on what could be described as downright perfect weather. In all honesty I have not been to the parade since I was a kid. And now that I’ve gone, I wonder why.
My company was lucky enough to score tickets to the VIP grandstands, so I was able to see everything from the comfort of bleachers, with MC’s Melissa and Jack from 103.7’s morning show! (Full disclosure, they are my favorite morning show hosts, I think Jack is hilarious, so there’s that.)

Kermit...
The parade kicked off with a slew of motorcycle officers leading the way. Then came NEMO! I mean who doesn’t love that little guy (big guy on Saturday, like seriously larger than my apartment). Other balloon highlights included Kermit, doing some weird dance move apparently called the dap (I’ve been out of college for a couple, ok a few, years now so I really have no idea what these new dance moves are), the Santa (of course), Rudolph (who was grounded due to a previous collision with a stoplight from last year) and the candy cane! OK, you may ask why a candy cane is a highlight, but of course that was Addison Clark’s balloon, so it was a fantastic one. Also, it closely followed by (human) Santa Claus!
One of the best things was the ACCA group (those old men who drive the teeny cars). They do some daredevil stunts in those bitty cars. We were lucky enough to get a long show in front of our seats. Two Harlem Globetrotters entertained us as well! Plenty of dance crews, baton people and marching bands were in attendance as well.
If you haven’t been to the parade since you were a kid like me, or have never been, put it on your list for next year! It’s an awesome, FREE, Richmond event filled with fun.
