Apartment Hacks: Fresh Flowers

Do you ever notice how fresh flowers suddenly brighten your space and make it feel cleaner? Magic. I swear. I’m doing a house cleaning cure from Apartment Therapy (one of my favorite design sites), and the first step was to buy fresh flowers, I already like this cure. And I can totally tell why this is the first step - they instantly make me happy. This happiness helps when I have to scrub floors and do goodness knows what else.

For $5 from the local grocery store, my apartment is now happy (it wasn’t not before, just noticeably so at this moment) in an instant. Here’s the thing, I bought these cheap flowers (looked for the cheapest that I could stand), I know they don’t belong I a nice vase, so I settle on the water pitcher from my bar cart.
The key to keeping flowers fresh, longer, cut your stems on an angle. The secret to an interesting arrangement, varying height. I cut the majority of these at the same height with my last 4 stems a little higher. I feel like this gives the arrangement a casual, rustic vibe, a little unkempt, but in a good way. Perfect for how I’m feeling now. I plan on enjoying these flowers while making the most of this cure...next up...making a list of trouble spots (jeez where do I start, the old t shirts under my bed, the Christmas decorations still all over my apartment or the closet that doesn’t have a chance in hell of being organized…) At least I have pretty flowers.
