RVA Things: Texas Beach Bloody Mary Mix Tasting

Over the weekend, I hosted a Texas Beach Bloody Mary Mix tasting party. A friend of mine (hey Rach) works for an agency that is helping them with an anonymous survey for their product. I jumped on board (of course) and decided to turn it into a group thing, because what fun is drinking bloody marys alone?

Admittedly, I normally drink bloody marys when it’s light outside, with a serving of eggs benedict and funny stories from the night before, but we decided to do our tasting on Friday night. I gathered things from my fridge I thought we may like to add to our drinks, set out some apps and waited for my friend, Will, to show up with the vodka. He showed up with vodka and gin (yea…).

First drinks

While it was just the two of us, we decided to have a sip of the mix plain, nothing in it, not even vodka. Immediately we liked the flavor, it had a nice kick. So next, we decided to to do “plain” bloodies, aka, nothing additional added. We made our drinks and started sipping. We liked what we tasted. The mix really hit the spot. It tasted like a bloody mary that I had doctored up and made myself, except, all I had done was pour the mix over some vodka, stir and drink. I was surprised how much I liked it. No one who came over even bothered adding anything additional. It really just satisfied everyone, even some friends who said they don’t drink bloodies, but took a few sips.

The rules

So what exactly is Texas Beach Bloody Mary Mix? From their website:

“Texas Beach is a special place to all of us who kayak, swim, or sunbathe by the North banks of the James here in Richmond, VA. Located at the end of Texas Avenue, Richmonders flock to this river destination. Hot summer days and serene fall walks by the rocks and rushing currents of the James inspired us to name our flagship Bloody Mary Mix. Just as the river flows through Richmond, so does Texas Beach Bloody Mary Mix. In early 2015, Texas Beach first arrived on the shelves of local markets and the tables of hungry brunchers. It was an instant hit amongst Bloody Mary connoisseurs and a relief to bartenders who spent so much time doctoring up the basic mixes. We developed our recipe with the belief that a Bloody Mary Mix should be amazing right out of the bottle.”

I honestly didn't read that before I tried my mix and I can honestly say that sums it up nicely! Learn more from their site.

Closer look at the cool label (Phoebe really wanted some as well)
