RVA Spots: Buskey Cider

You guys, I think I might like cider. I mean not as much as beer, wine and cocktails, but it’s growing on me and I have Buskey Cider to thank for that! (OK, sometimes I’ll have a random Bold Rock here and there.)
I spent my Labor Day doing absolutely no labor and instead enjoying what is the symbolic last day of summer inside drinking, but responsibly, because ya know I still had to work the next day.
After doing a few other things, a few friends and I went to check out Buskey. I’d heard good things. Seen their funny slogan #GetBuskey and I was willing to go even if it was *gasp* a cidery.
We escaped from the heat and saw that many others had decided to do the same. Make sure you don’t trip up the stairs that immediately greet you as you open the door! We walked into the front bar, all the tables were full, plus the party space was booked. Clearly, this was a hot spot already, after only being open a short while. We got in line and discussed what we wanted - flights, but let’s make sure we get all the types so we can try everything. Done.
We ordered and wandered into the back, much larger, section. Much to my delight, there were dogs! Even though it was indoors, it is dog friendly and I’m down with that. The tables in the back were also full but we were able to snag a corner of one for ourselves.
And then the tasting began, I took a sip of each and determined I could handle this, cider was OK. I had a flight of five - the RVA Cider, 45 and Trying, Lemongrass (don’t get that one), Citra Hopped and Mandarin. My friend got the watermelon and I tried that one as well (kinda tart!). I ended up being boring and liking the RVA Cider the most. I did overall like each of the ones I tried. Their cider was less sweet than most I’d previously had (aforementioned Bold Rock), which I liked. The Citra Hopped actually reminded me of a hoppy beer (albeit a bit watered down).
I’ll definitely be back to Buskey (I forgot my card there, but seriously, I’ll go back to get a drink). It’s in an awesome location right behind Fat Dragon and I can’t wait to see what they bring to the area.
