RVA Spots: Lulabelle’s Cafe

So charming. So delicious. My mom and I went for lunch last week. I had only been once before, maybe a year ago. At that time, it was just our table being served. Last week, the place was packed. There was a list to sit down. I am always happy to see when these special places are doing well.

Once we were seated, Mom and I were given a menu, but told it was important to go look at the chalkboard. The chalkboard held all the specials, sides available that day and more. There we found that the soup of the day was clam chowder with a myriad of wonderful sides.

We chose to split the fried green tomato sandwich with pimento cheese and bacon (I mean, how could you not). We got the pasta salad side and the clam chowder. Our meal was served on mismatched china and with delightful mason jars.

Each piece was perfect. The clam chowder was the best I’ve ever had, the sandwich, perfect and the pasta salad, just creamy enough.

Lulabelle’s is truly a charming casual cafe. Our chef came to our table, not to boast or receive compliments, but to clear our dishes. This felt like a cafe in the middle of a small southern town, but we are lucky to have it right here on Patterson Avenue in Richmond.

If you are looking for a great meal with a casual, friendly atmosphere, go check out Lulabelle’s!
