RVA Eats: Olio's

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to bite into a dream? Funny, that never crossed my mind either, until I tried the Italian picnic at Olio’s last week. I literally thought to myself this is what a dream tastes like.

Not only is their ambience perfect in the casual come pick up a sandwich or stay for 5 hours kind of way, but they also had the nicest staff.

It being my first time, I was overwhelmed with the menu. It all looked so delicious. I was having trouble deciding. So I asked and was met with questions to help steer me in the right direction. Ultimately I ended up with the Italian picnic for no other reason than it had fig jam on it and I wanted that.

Great decision. As I settled into a table by the window where I could watch the Main Street traffic, I felt tranquil and serene. I imagine this is what cafes in Tuscany feel like (I've been once but I was 15 and a little shit back then so my appreciation for these things had yet to develop).

The Italian Picnic

Not long after my sandwich arrived. What it lacked in color and presentation pizzaz, it more than made up for in taste. Nestled in a warmed baguette dripping with gooey cheese, the Italian picnic was like biting into a cloud. Despite being on the baguette it was not tough to bite into. The ingredients meshed so well - cheese, turkey, fig jam (yes!) and Granny Smith apple slices.

I could not have been happier with my first experience at Olio’s and went on the brag about it for the rest of the day!
