Random Ramblings: Freezing in RVA

It’s been cold in Richmond and despite living here basically my whole life and going to school in the mountains, I can’t deal. I’ve never been much of a cold weather person. The thing I like best about snow is having school (now work) close. I could do without and I know plenty of people who feel the same. (Not that you aren't beautiful with a blanket of white on you RVA.)

Here are a few ways to go about surviving the RVA winter:

  1. Head south. No better way to handle cold than to just up and leave altogether. I’m headed to Raleigh this weekend to do just that. (Although I’m pretty sure I’d have to go much further south to truly warm up.)

  2. Use OrderUp. One of the worst things about winter is going outside, but one of my favorite things about Richmond is the food, OrderUp solves this dilemma. They deliver from all my favorite restaurants like Foo Dog, Little Mexico and Lalos. God bless delivery drivers. Don’t forget to tip y’all! Note: there are other services including Quickness, EatStreet and Grubhub that offer similar services to help you avoid the cold.

  3. Use Uber. I have no shame in taking Uber 5 blocks to avoid icy sidewalks and freezing temperatures. For $5.50 I think it’s worth it.

  4. Netflix. Aka my best friend. I’m really getting through a lot of shows on my list these days. I just finished the second season of Bloodline and the new season of Always Sunny. I’m now flipping between New Girl (never seen it all the way through) and One Tree Hill, because nostalgia. Any new recommendations?

  5. VMFA. While this does require a trip outside, you can spend hours and hours in the VMFA. They have a restaurant and cafe to keep you fed and watered, not to mention some of the best art in the United States. I like to break my trips down by sides of the buildings but always end up just wandering around letting myself sort of let the art guide me. They also have the Jasper Johns and Edvard Munch exhibit until February 20.

  6. Bars. I mean, we have a few here in RVA. Support your local pub and warm yourself with some local brew, spirits and more. Become best friends with a bartender this winter at your nearest neighborhood spot. (This can honestly happen during any season, but I figured I’d reiterate it.)

Any other cold weather recommendations in RVA? I do realize I left off going outside and enjoying the beautiful city in the freezing cold…

Stay warm RVA!

I guess you could say I enjoy the comedy genre.
