RVA Spots: The Secret Sandwich Society

I’m a sucker for a good sandwich, so I was beyond excited to go try The Secret Sandwich Society. Located on Grace Street in the booming Arts District, right across from Richmond CenterStage, it is in a prime location.
I went with two friends for lunch on a Friday. The place was packed, there was a 15 minute wait around noon. We weren’t working that day so we decided to sit at the bar and enjoy a cocktail. The bartender was very friendly and helpful and offered several suggestions. We were offered a specialty cocktail menu and chose a few to enjoy. It is my understanding that this menu rotates. They also have a happy hour from 3-6pm with drink specials.

After hanging out at the bar, people watching, chatting with bar staff and checking out the spot, we were seated in a cozy booth. The restaurant appears very spacious and industrial which is a bit unique within Richmond, land of the skinny dive bar. Once seated in our cozy booth, we really had to get down to business on deciding what we wanted to eat. First things first, the loaded Pimento Cheese Fries. We had seen these on basically every table and it was a no brainer. They arrived shortly after we ordered and we devoured them.
It took us forever to decide which sandwiches to choose. With a menu so delicious looking we had a lot of deliberation. We eventually all settled on our choices, I got the Lafayette, per the server’s suggestion. My friends each got the Truman and the Fillmore. The sandwiches took a little longer than we would have liked, but the owner was very gracious and came up to apologize saying they didn’t expect the crowd to be so large. They also comped us a piece of delicious cake. We were having fun and it was fine with us!
This is somewhere I will totally visit again and probably check out their happy hour. I enjoyed the sandwich, but would want to try another since they all look so great!
