I, like many children, played soccer as a child. Maybe played is too strong a word...I was on a soccer team. My parents always tell me I would just sit down on the field and pick the “flowers” (weeds) instead of actively participate in the sport.
As a born watcher, I really enjoy sports, especially when I can see them live and don’t have to actively participate. In Richmond we are lucky enough to have some great opportunities to watch live sports. One of the best is the Richmond Kickers. Right outside of Carytown, City Stadium is the place to be when the Kickers are in town.
Over the last few years this club has really made something of themselves. This year they got a TV deal and Adidas is their uniform sponsor. This is no rinky dink team, they are the real deal.
And the games are FUN! With beer trucks, live music and the Red Army, there is something for everyone. Various food trucks and vendors line the stadium while fans hang out in the grass and make their way to their seats.
Last Saturday was their home opener and they had over 8,000 attendees! That’s really incredible. They also won their game! They also had the largest crowd in their division! How many exclamation points can I put in a paragraph!
If you haven’t been to a Kickers game yet, it is time to make it a priority. From the Red Army to the before game activities, this is the place to be. The players are also amazing and totally embrace the crowd.
How much more do I need to tell you? The next game is April 8, 2017! It’s also a beer event. Be there.
