RVA This Week: Squirrels Game, Eleven Months and Schlumberger

It’s been awhile since I’ve published an RVA this week, mostly because I haven’t really done “RVA things.” I’ve been spending every moment of time I can in the sun at the pool (my June resolution was literally sunshine). With that being said, I actually did go out and do things besides work, Ad Club and lounge by the pool this week.

The Richmond Flying Squirrels

My sister texted me a few weeks ago and said she was throwing out one of the first pitches for Tuesday’s game. I immediately called my mom and we made a whole plan to go watch. We bought the best seats on the field (a whooping $14) and I invited two of my friends to come. My sister was better than expected! If you haven’t been to a game, put it on your list of must-dos for the summer. There is nothing quite like a summer evening with a hotdog and beer listening to the crack of a baseball bat. Bonus - the players aren’t bad to look at either. Check out their schedule.

I wish this was dinner every night

Eleven Months

Okay, this was honestly a trip for Ad Club to do some research for a future happy hour, but I still feel like I need to let everyone know how awesome it was. The interior was done by Campfire and Co. and the theme is Best Friends Forever. Eleven Months is a pop-up restaurant concept located in Carytown. They have themes that last about, well 11 months, and everything from the drinks to the food to the polaroid wall currently reflect best friends forever. I didn’t actually eat (I had somewhere else to be otherwise I would have stayed all night), but I did sample one of the cocktails and it was phenomenal. I’ve already texted my friends to make plans to go for real.

Schlumberger Exhibit at the VMFA

My favorite time to go the museum is right when it opens on the weekends. It is not very crowded and very peaceful. This Saturday I popped in some headphones and headed to the Schlumberger exhibit at the VMFA. I had heard amazing things about this exhibit and this was the closing weekend, so I really made a point of going. It did not disappoint. Schlumberger was a jewelry designer who had his own section in Tiffany’s. The jewelry was amazing and the stories behind each piece were incredibly interesting. Some of the most famous faces have worn his gems - Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy to name a couple. While you can’t go see it at the VMFA right now, it will be back! After traveling for a few years, this will be part of the permanent collection.

Flowers were a big theme for the designer
