RVA Eats: Graffiato

A group of my friends just started a “Restaurant Club.” Each month one person gets to pick a place to go that they have never been to in Richmond.

Our first was chosen by my friend Casey. She picked Graffiato. I’d actually never eaten anything here either. I’ve been for drinks and socializing, just not eating. The chef, Mike Isabella, was actually on Top Chef and has a host of accolades and awards to his name.

I love the space. It’s located on Broad Street next to Quirk Hotel. It is spacious and feels like a D.C. spot (probably based on the chef’s background). We were a large party and seated off to one side in what felt like a semi-private area.

Something important to note: Graffiato is a tapas place. That means everything comes out on small plates and you are meant to share with the table. With nine people this was an ideal situation. We all ordered one thing and just passed the plates around as they came.

I love eating this way! You get to try a little of everything. They also bring the food as it is ready, instead of waiting for everything. Genius!

We started with the cheese platters (the only picture I managed to get with all the hungry eaters around). It was a beautiful platter with great cheese and meat.

After that, everyone ordered their “pick.” I had heard the bone marrow was the thing to try, and I love to be adventurous so I chose that. We also had people choose the following:

  • Crispy Potatoes - I loved these, they put pesto on them

  • Broccolini - served with walnuts

  • Gnocchi - delicious and a good portion size

  • Herb Tagliatelle - awesome bolognese sauce

  • Carbonara - honestly the best I’ve ever had, I could have eaten a full serving easily

  • American Pie - classic tomato pizza

  • Pineapple Express - twist on a classic hawaiian pizza with sriracha

  • Porky’s Revenge - delicious meat lovers pizza

My pick, the bone marrow, was amazing! It was topped with bacon and crushed pistachios and everyone tried it.

It was definitely a successful first pick. Graffiato was a fun, easy environment to enjoy a dinner with a large group of friends.
