As y’all know I’m a fan of eating. As you may also know, I run a local bocce league. Luckily those two things go hand in hand for me. Each week I get to eat pizza and different burgers. I also like to eat in my “free” time. (Of course, I eat in my free time, that’s a given.) Recently I’ve had some awesome pizza, a chicken “burger” and had an amazing bouillabaisse.
Pizza
Triple Crossing is known for their beer, but one of my favorite things about going to their Fulton location is the pizza oven. The brick oven pizza is a bright yellow beacon you can’t resist. I think at this point I’ve tried all of their “regular” pizzas. All of them have been fantastic, including the charcuterie platter.
They also offer seasonal specials, which I like to try when I go to bocce. One week I got a pesto red pizza topped with sausage. It was so delicious. I don’t normally think of pesto with pizza, but the combination worked perfectly with their thin crust.

This week they had a pizza that almost had me do a happy dance while I was ordering it (kinda not joking, I had had two beers at this point) - white pizza with crab and old bay. Honestly. That was a pizza choice. Crab - ummm one of my favorite things ever. Old Bay - the best spice on earth. White pizza - amazing. Combine all three and you get a delicious pizza. My only gripe is that is was too filling and I couldn’t finish all the pizza myself and I had to share.

Chicken Burgers
Boulevard, Burger and Brew is known for their burgers (duh), but they also make delicious chicken. The Hardywood bocce group is offered specials at BBB every Wednesday and they treat us to a special “bocce burger.” It is different each week and full of awesome surprises (never an item on the menu).
Last week they did a chicken and waffle burger. The waffle was the bun, the chicken was fried and covered in maple syrup. I ate it so quickly I didn’t take a picture or stop to think that this possibly one of the weirdest burgers we have been served, but it was so yummy.
The week before they did a chicken and blue cheese burger. That was fantastic (and a bit more traditional with a “regular” bun). Sometimes I think blue cheese can be overwhelming, but this was perfectly balanced. They also have amazing side dishes, like Thai fried green beans.

Bouillabaisse
The Carytown Watermelon Festival is one of my favorite Richmond traditions. It is normally sweltering hot and crowded with people, but that’s just part of it. This year I went to brunch at Can Can with my friend and her family so we could people watch and enjoy some drinks in the AC. Carafes of Rose were ordered and the people watching commenced immediately. The food ordering took much longer. I eventually decided on the bouillabaisse.
The dish was amazing! It was served with two pieces of baguette, one topped with aioli, one with rouille. Once I uncovered the dish, I was so impressed with the clams, mussels and snap peas, which were a pleasant surprise. The broth was just thick enough, but still nice and lite. I could probably eat this every day.

This is one of my favorite things about Richmond, so many options for food and fun. From brewery eats, to diner to french cuisine, all in our fair city.
Here are a few other moments from the past few weeks:
