Restaurant Club: Beijing on Grove

My Restaurant Group went to Beijing on Grove in August. We meet up monthly to try a new place one of our “members” has never been. This month we went to the Libbie and Grove establishment.

I’ve been to many of the other EAT establishments (Foo Dog, Boulevard Burger & Brew, Wong Gonzalez) and always enjoyed myself, so I set high expectations for this one. It certainly did not disappoint.

I knew this as Blue Goat, and before that Peking. I don’t mind that the owners decided to go back to the Chinese influence. We sat in the “private” room and enjoyed our meal thoroughly.

We all started with mules, as they were having a “Mule Month” special. We went on a Tuesday and that meant happy hour until 9pm. We ordered drinks, then perused the menu.

Honestly, it all looked good. We had to get our waitress to give us a few pointers. Someone ordered the chili dumplings and chicken things for appetizers. Both were amazing and set our expectations even higher.

I got the Larceny and then got another

The mules were flowing and we were ready for dinner. I ordered the happy family, because it had all the things I was looking for - chicken, beef, seafood, plus, it came in a taco shell, and I was intrigued.

We had been boisterous the whole evening, but when the food arrived, we all dug in and fell silent. I’m pretty sure everyone gobbled up as much of their meal as possible without looking up. We all shared a little, but I was lucky to end with leftovers for my dinner the next day - they serve HUGE portions.

Not only was the food the great, but the drinks specials will certainly have us coming back!
