Fitness Update: February

I got to tighten my belt today. Literally. One of my focuses for 2018 was to establish a better fitness and health routine. No, I am not by any means living the healthiest lifestyle. I am literally drinking wine while I type this. I have made some small changes that have made some small, but great impacts.

I had my awesome friend give me some gym tips. I am now more comfortable in the male dominated section of the gym. I use free weights and some of the other tools at my disposal that I used to be unfamiliar with. Being comfortable in the gym really helps.

I goal myself to get to the gym 4 times during the week and once on the weekends. I fail often. But I notice. And that says something. I also often make up for it with small home workouts. I would have never done that in the past.

Yoga has been amazing. I try to wake up and do a yoga video every day. They range from 20 to 30 minutes and I love them. Yoga may not be a weight loss tool but it puts me in a good headspace and I think that’s really what matters. Being in a good place is important. So far I’ve done yoga 28 times this year.

I did a detox. Sorta. I mildly followed Tone It Ups 5 day detox. I learned two things: I can make simple easy meals and I will never like beets. Now I have some go to meals for when I eat at home. They just so happen to not contain gluten or dairy. Both of those things I used to use regularly in meals. I love them. But I don’t find myself missing them when I cook. I also allow myself to eat whatever I want when I go out. I think that has been my key to balance.

This is the meal I made tonight. So delicious. Throw all the ingredients onto my cast iron skillet and let it roll.

While I know I will never be “model-thin” these past two months have helped me be much more body confident. I will never give up girls nights with wine and cheese. I will never give up pizza. I’ve just reworked my regularly scheduled programming.

(P.S. Today I had a delicious Italian sub from Union Market and had zero guilt.)
