Life Lately: March

I'm sitting on my couch on a lazy Friday evening. My dog is asleep next to me, March Madness is on the TV and a glass of wine is not far from reach. I have a belly full of food and I'm thinking about the great things I've had on my plate recently (food and otherwise).

Where I've been fueling up:

I went to Ardent/ZZQ with my team today. I got Ardent's just released Pomegranate Gose that was amazing. I also got to try ZZQ for the first time. They were out of the pulled pork (lots of discussion was had around that), but we tried the brisket, sausage and jalapeno macaroni and cheese. I was not disappointed. We got a whole tray and between 8 of us it was gone it about 15 minutes.

Yesterday I had a super fun girls night at Foo Dog. Not only do I love hanging out with my ladies, but Foo Dog is one of my favorites. We had edamame, shrimp, wings and many Malaysian Mules. Between the food, drinks and company, it was an ideal evening.

We also took an account managers lunch to Lunch and Supper yesterday (yep, I haven't cooked much this week). It was some people's first time to this gem of an RVA spot. We ended up in Lunch and I got the bacon macaroni and buffalo chicken po boy (special sandwich of the day).

My family is lucky enough to know the owners of Hardywood and we were invited to the Friends and Family event for the new location in Goochland. On a Sunday all us city folk headed to the country to marvel over the new brewery. They are opening up that location to the public very soon and I highly recommend.

Little Saint is one of my new favorites. I have now been for a brunch and a happy hour. I love the little spot in Devil's Triangle. They have a great patio and great food. It's charming and has delicious food.

For an Ad Club event we went to dinner at Brenner Pass and I was impressed. Their service was exceptional and the food really stood out. I had an awesome steak for my entree and we shared a bunch of apps and charcuterie platters.

Just beautiful from Brenner Pass

I got in the Terracotta Army exhibit at the VMFA during the last weekend. Such an impressive presentation of Chinese art. The size of the "army" was impressive. It really made you think about the level of sophistication they had all those year ago.

What I've been thinking about:

I love to read articles on productivity and organization. A big topic recently has been busyness. Often when you ask people how they are doing they say "good, I've been busy." But what does that mean - busy. Are you crazy swamped? Are you happy about that? People often use that phrase as a badge of honor, like running around like a chicken with your head cut off is a good thing. This is an awesome article about the difference between being busy and being productive.

I also really love this article about 10 habits to happiness. Number nine is saying no. This is actually something I'm working on. Saying no isn't mean. Saying no means you are setting your priorities and not spreading yourself too thin. You are respecting the obligations you already have by not getting distracted by more things on your to do list.

What else:

Our Ad Club is about to have the Richmond Show, which is our biggest event. This has kept me busy (yep, this term is still okay to use). I am the event chair, so I basically have to coordinate with the venue, our team and a bunch of other moving parts. I am so excited to see it all come together on April 6.

Bocce is back. The bocce league I run is about to start back up next week. Our first night is Wednesday at Hardywood. I actually just ran into a group of people who play and they said how much they were looking forward to the season starting. This brings my heart joy. (Our Triple Crossing league starts in two weeks and is still accepting players and teams if you are interested.)

I'm moving. I'll have more thoughts as it gets closer, but after three years in my little Fan apartment I am moving to Scott's Addition and taking on a roommate (my sister). I am both excited and sad. The move doesn't happen until July, so more emotions to come.

Finally, it's National Puppy Day so I have to give my girl a shout out. I am so thankful for my best friend Phoebe. We recently stayed over at my parent's house while my mom was out of town. I had three dogs - Phoebe, Ginger (parent's golden) and Lexi (aunt's black lab). All three of them were so good and so sweet together. It made me a proud parent.
